Neiva Mask

São Romão de Neiva is a parish in Viana do Castelo that is known in the area of handicrafts for its embroidery and work in linen and wood.

Neiva was a Minho village whose history has always been closely linked to the presence of Benedictine monks. During all the time that the monks managed the village, there were never other landowners in the territory, whether they were rich landowners or members of the nobility, and that is why there are no large properties that feature ostentatious palaces in their spaces, such as the seen in the rest of Minho.
That is the reason why in terms of architecture with some significance, it then has buildings related to the Church.

The Papaya Mask is the result of Minho resilience, of women who carry art in their hands and generational strength in their hearts.

At a time of pandemic, when they lost their jobs, they combined will and need, love and opportunity, to create a product that is, above all, a message of hope.
